Question Help with buzzing/hum from a bass rig when playing live

Sign in to disble this ad
I didn't know where to post this as there is no topic that relates to all things about playing live!

I'm looking for advice on getting rid of a buzz (suspected ground/earth problem) I get at maybe 1 in 5 gigs.

I use the same bass and rig combination consistently (for about 2 years) but every so often at a gig I get an annoying buzz through the PA when they take a line out of my balanced XLR to run to the PA. I end up having to run through a DI box but I lose all my effects/preamp setup.

I have had the bass checked out, replaced batteries, tried different combinations of ground lift on/off on the pre amp and checked out the amp.

I use this rig for alot of recording and have never had any problems like this, its just at some gigs.

Does anyone else have similiar problems...I have heard people talk about trying to earth the bass to your body in some way?

It's more likely the PA's fault than your rig's. Has it happened at one venue and then not happened at the same venue?

Does your bass rig hum as well, or just the PA?

Check your gain structure.

Also pick up one of those testers at Radio Shack that will tell you if the power outlet is configured properly. Running all band instruments and the PA off of the same circuit can help.
