Question Help! Double booked gig and bass rig question...

Okay, I gotta problem for you all...

We have a gig set for a Friday and Saturday (9-10pm start) night at bar "A." However, on Saturday during the afternoon (3pm - 7pm), we are booked to host a afternoon blues jam at bar "B."

Problem is with the exception of the sax player and singer, the rest of us have to shlep our gear back and forth. That really sux. I believe the drummer has worked out a deal with some other dude to have a kit at bar "B." As for the guiturd - he's on his own!

My options are:

1) Tear down my gear and re-setup each time
2) Leave my gear at "A" and run thru the board only at "B"
3) Leave my gear at "A" and bring my head only, and run direct to the board that way

The sound guy at bar "B" is pretty good. But....since our vocalist and sax player both run wireless mics and our sax player wears ear monitors, at our last gig at "B", I couldn't hear $$%@! They had to use my monitor feed for his ear channel.

Im not concerned with the FOH sound as it was good last time. I'm just nervous about my bandstand sound. Incidently, at our last gig at "B" I wasn't in the monitor mix at all - it was just me and my amp.

What are my (other if any) options!

Thanks,

Jon

I'd tear down and take the setup with me from A to B

You've got two hours between gigs......if you don't stand around BSing after the first gig, and the drive to the second is less than an hour, that would give you 30 minutes to tear down and 30 minutes to set up... plus whatever extra time the drive isn't... that should be plenty enough to reset up.

I can tear down in 10 minutes if someone helps me get my cab off the stage, 15 if they don't (it's heavy!). When it started pouring at a gig, me and two guitar players tore the entire set down in 15 minutes flat, and that included PA. (no drums).

Since you would've already played through the stuff, shouldn't need major adjustments.......and do you really trust your stuff at bar A? I wouldn't leave equipment anywhere if it could be helped.

Grab some friends, load your stuff, be heard at gig B

I hate to admit it but...since joining my band I've always left ALL or most of my gear at the gigs where we play Fri and Sat. I know I probably shouldn't but I'm usually beat by the end of the night.

Hopefully I won't be like this poor dude who got a good chunk of his gear stolen:

The guy had a lot of very valuables taken....

My teacher leaves his really big stuff at the venue he plays Fri and Sat too.......but, he takes anything that can be easily carried with him. Basses, heads, cables, stands, two wheeler, all comes home. And, it's kept in a locked room at the venue. So far, so good..... if someone wants to make off with a 150 lb speaker cab they'd have a heck of a time wrestling it without a 2 wheeler

Probably too late now, but this is one of the reasons I own more than one rig. The second rig acts as a backup but can also be used in cases like you just mentioned.

With two rigs you can leave the main rig at the two night gig and use the backup at the jam.
