Help find out if missing bass player is alive

Sign in to disble this ad
Sorry to intrude, but as a concerned father, I find myself breaking some conventions.

Six months ago, my son, Paul Shuman-Moore, who is a bass player, disappeared from Grinnell College. He left a suicide note, but no body has been found. He left no clue as to where he might be or why he left. He just disappeared without a trace.

Our latest effort has been to get his band mates to narrate a video describing Paul's passion for music and asking him to let us know he is alive and well. That's all we want - just the knowledge that he didn't take his life. Please check out the video on YouTube at http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IoIth8wzews . Unlike most of the junk on YouTube, this is very watchable and thought provoking.

If you see Paul, pass on the message his band mates give in the video - just let us know you're ok.

Thanks for your help.

That is just terrible. My heart goes out to your family. I hope he thought better of it and turns up alive and well.

Paul, if you are out there and reading this, contact your family. All is forgiven. They love you very much and miss you.

Something to think about if you are thinking about "ending it all"

This is the kind of gut wrenching heartbreak that gets left behind the wake.

No matter how bad it is, it ain't that bad.

This is probably one of the saddest things I've read in a long time - I hope very much that you get some good news as a result of posting this here.

Steve,

As much as I may be in the minority opinion here, I'll post anyway.

Like I said in my original post, I did repost this everywhere I could, and for your sake, I hope you find him.

It doesn't sound like your son wants to be found. You believe he is alive, and that's fine. But he has been missing since September. In the 7 months that it's been, I'm sure if he wanted to find a way to contact you, he would have.

Sometime's it's hard to understand the choices that people make. Nevertheless, it's imperative to accept them.

Eitherway, it's a sad story.

Any history of or signs of mental illness? Many things could have happened and he could be out wandering somewhere. Could have been committed to a mental health facility and if he didn't have any ID, they wouldn't know who to contact.

Bob Clayton raises an issue I've dealt with since the first couple weeks, when I became convinced he did not take his life. You could make the argument that that we should let him stay out there and resolve his issues. If I could be assured he is thinking clearly and is in a good environment, I'd tend to agree. But we know absolutely nothing about physical, emotional or mental state, why he left, where he is, what he is doing or what he plans. Until that uncertainty is lifted, I can't just sit by and hope he's okay and that he will someday contact us.

Steve, as a Grinnell grad (81 - Music), I am alerting my other Grinnell grad musician friends here in the Northeast.

Prayers are with you...

I am so sorry for your situation. The "not knowing" of this must be awful.

I am almost hesitant to post this, but my experience with someone missing bore out the truth of what happened. There are people, psychics, mediums, who specialize in this kind of stuff. I know one. She is a smart, educated lady who could be doing other things, but chose to help people in this way.

Have you ever seen the show Medium? That woman, Allison DeBois, is a real-life person who works for the DA, has written several books, and could be contacted.

I know, I know, I know, this may be out in left field, and, yes there are frauds, but there are also reputable people whose intuitions bear out the truth most of the time. When it comes to things like this, I just wanted to know what happened. There's something about having information and knowing that could bring some peace to this situation.
