Help with an instrument...

I hope this is the right forum for this -- it's been awhile since I've started a new thread here!

Uh, I'm trying to figure out what kind of instrument is used to get the snake-like rattle heard at the 1:08 mark of the Madonna song, "Into the Groove" or the 0:08 mark of the Ozzy Osbourne tune, "Zombie Stomp." I like the way the one on the Madonna song fades out right away, but I assume both sounds are made by the same instrument.

For those that don't have these two songs at the ready, it sounds like something a person would strike and as it rings out, it sounds like a rattlesnake's rattle that slowly fades out. Can anyone help a brother out?
