G'day to all the bass players that use this forum....I'm hoping one of you will take the time to type out a few interpretations of some of the lingo(or bass speak) for me.
I think I have worked out that... MIM P Bass is a "Precision Bass" or a copy of a Precision Bass....but the MIM bit has got me stuffed...excuse my ignorance but you have to start somewhere...thanks |

| The MIM, MIA, MIJ abbreviations stand for where the bass is made. Such as: MI (Mexico), MI (America), MI (Japan), etc.
It's cool... I'm still getting used to the forum short-hand too. |

My 14 year old daughter suggested to me that I should start functioning on more than the 3 or 4 brain cells that I currently use,...had to ask her how many she used as she knows "everything"
But thanks again |

On another thought, what is the difference in quality between MIM, MIJ, and MIA?

MIA; CIJ ("crafted" in japan)/MIJ ; then MIM
(but the MIM's certainly aren't bad basses!)

Made in America Fenders tend to all be well manufactured. Made in Mexico Fenders can vary from equal in quality to a MIA all the way to crap. It varies from instrument to instrument, so it pays to get your hands on one.
Also, manufacturing quality goes out the window when you're buying used. Somebody could have a wonderful $3000 Mastercrafted Fender that they've completely mistreated that will be in worse shape than your fresh-off-the-line MIM. |

Even Squier basses can be considered real Fender basses because they are made under license by a sub-contractor selected by Fender. Now Sadowsky basses, on the other hand, are technically copies of Fender basses because they are not produced by Fender. And on the other end of the price scale, SX basses are also copies.
Sorry for getting all exact and stuff... |

General Instruction [BG] General questions regarding bass playing, theory, and bass lessons.
| That's at the top of the forum.
Now that the question has been answered let's not discuss the quality variations of that company's instruments or move this to the appropriate section.
Happy holidays! |

Seriously though, my problem is the fact that this discussion about Fender basses is happening in the theory sub-forum. |

Just complain to a mod and it will get moved. |
