help me change my band name

Sign in to disble this ad
my band name is Cloak of Shadows and even though I like the name I want to change it that better fits our style. Cloak of Shadows is too gothy and we're going for the more 80's style, get the crowd involved, party band. You can check the myspace page and see what i mean

I have been writing down names as I think of them and so far I have:

Unfazed
Face Down
Bodyshot
Damned if ya Do
Decadance
Detox
Insomnia

but those arent really doing it for me either.

Lemme break out the 'ol list... some are taken, but if you're just gigging local bars it should be no problem.

Danger, Stuntman!
Comrade Gasoline
Underpaid Henchmen
Bipolar Bear (taken from an STP song)
President Zombie
Ransom Note
Brainbrew
Ugly Duckling
Knife Games
Drive-by Lobotomy

Or, you could just review one of the thousand " band name" threads already on TB, and choose a name from there.

What was that? Is this a Band Name thread? Why yes. I do believe that it is.

You all know what that means...

It's time for THE LIST

And I guess I should do my typical disclaimer: Yes. I know that several of these have been used. But I came up with this stupid list in 1988. Any band that makes you want to say "Hey. I know those guys. You stole that name." had better have been playing twenty two years ago, or they should be apologizing to me for using one of my names.

Ready?

Tell It To The Priest
Blind Without a Dog
Talk To Your Daughter
Surfers From Iowa
Grubby Paws
Glass Eye Marbles
Needless Controversy
Inside Joke ( I actually like this one.)
Mars Needs Women and So Does Wayne (I'm Wayne)
Nerds On the Edge
Welfare Bound
Cartoon Characters
Bad Idea
Raised By Wolves Only To Be Killed By Science (I used this for an instrumental title)
Fools And Little Children
Lassie Loves Garfield (This ought to have been a title, but I never used it.)
Potential Cultists
Bee Movies
People With Instruments
No Sense Of Shame
Shameless (Oh look. A pattern forming.)
Black Market Teddy Bears
Irrelevant Flashbacks
Gypsies From Vegas
I Forget
Art of Vanishing (I like this one too)
Mental Radio
Golden Apples and Poisoned Pears (I used that for an instrumental title too)
Local Wildlife
Tiny Box of Fear ( I actually liked this one too.)
Gumby and Pokey
Brief Momens of Clarity
Bitten By Bruno (Bruno was a chihuahua)
The Plan
Rocket Science
All In Disguise
No Vacancy
Lost Cause
Sounds Like
Vicious Attack Snail Trainers
Professor Stupendous
Struck By Lightning Bugs
Brain Fade
Above Average
Just The Facts Ma'am
S. O. Teric
B. Tsar (Oh look. Another pattern forming.)
Wishful Thinking
Fuzzy Logic (The one we actually used for the next several years, This is just where it was in relation to the rest of the suggestions on the list.)
Carnival of Souls
Identity Crisis
Son of Lassie in 3-D
Formerly Something Else
Rhythmic Confusion
Rhythmic Confucius (I liked that better than the previous one.)
Wise But Wierd
Sane Asylum
Wisdom From The High Chair
Glass Hammer ( I like this one too.)
Touch Me There
Daisy's a Babe
Social Darwinists
Doctor Tongues 3-D House of Stewardesses (I think this was from a SCTV skit)

What I want you to grasp here is that this is a severely abridged list. There are four to five times this many names. And as bad as some of the ones I posted are, these are the good ones. I have kept the notebook because it has other things in it that are actually useful to me. But every once in a while I remember that, elsewhere in that notebook is THE LIST .

Enjoy.
Now remember, you brought this on yourself.

If Golden Boy is still around at all, he has a traditional follow up suggestion that usually appears shortly after I post my list.

Since Golden Boy doesn't seem to be around, I'll post his traditional suggestion:

Pink Unicorn Horsie. Or possibly Pink Unicorn Horsey.

One of those.

There. That feels better.

I think it was Horsey. You're right, these threads just don't feel right without that one.

I recommended Beauty Only Offers Bitter Sorrows a few times, but I eventually actually succeeded into convincing someone (not on this forum) to use that name. Yup, the acronym is B.O.O.B.S.

Whatever you do, do not change the name to Cloaca Of Shadows.

Go watch "The Breakfast Club", or one of the "Vacation" movies. Something will come to you. If that doesn't work, listen to some of the music you play. Pull a couple of words from the songs. Good luck!

I remember 'Cloaca' coming up in a band name thread, once. Someone had played in a band called that and said that his problem with the gig wasn't with the name. It was with their logo.
