I don't think so.....unless of course he swapped out the stock neck for one with solid gold/platinum frets. I am no Carvin expert though.... Ask him which model it is, then have a look at Carvin guitar catalogues at this website (complete with model years and prices).

Carvin guitars aren't exactly known for their resale value. If he can get five grand for a used Carvin guitar, he ought to take it and RUN RUN RUN. Maybe the kid thinks "grand" mean hundred .... not thousand.

This really needs to be posted in either the Miscellaneous forum or Off Topic... Not really bass related...

instigata, you might want to consider where the most applicable forum your threads should go when you decide to start a new one..

Hmm...the most expensive "stock" Carvin available today is $1270. Even if you optioned it out with gold hardware, pearl inlays, exotic woods, etc. I don't thinhk it would get much over $2500. ASSUMING Carvin sold stuff that high-end back in the early 90's, do you suppose it has appreciated 100% since then?

An early 90's Carvin? NAH!

(Unless maybe Kurt Cobain slept with it...)

Even if it was some one off, it's not worth five grand unless someone else is willing to fork over their hard earned green backs for it. Highly unlikley for a used Carvin, unless it was owned by Jimi Hendrix or something! (just as unlikely)

It's only worth what someone would actually pay for it.
5K seems unlikely to me. But I'm just a bass player.

...and he'd still be exaggerating.

Of course, if the guitar was owned by someone famous and he can prove it, all bets are off.
