To my ears (though on laptop speakers) the sound is more of the keys than the bass. His slap comes through a little stronger in certain spots, but it sounds fairly clean to me. I think you're hearing the keys more than anything.
What was that headstock I saw at 4:44? It looked somewhat Valenti-ish, but I feel confident that it wasn't one of Nino's; it just seemed a little off from that. I can't recall what the other company is that has a somewhat similar head shape.
