Help needed with tuning a 5-string banjo

Sign in to disble this ad
One of my nieces got a banjo from Freecycle. I believe the owner passed away and his relatives decided to give his musical instruments to kids instead of trying to make a buck.

I have been given the responsability to tune it.

What would be the best tuning for a banjo, knowing my niece is 17 and interested to learn?

Thanks!

Most bassplayers prefer to tune banjos using fire.

Burn it until it loses that annoying out-of-tune sound!

Lol I tried to tune it at gCGBd but is it really what it's supposed to be?

The little string is incredibly hard to tune, but maybe it's supposed to be out of tune?

Part of the deal was a free violin for me, and that I can tune

Maybe this will help. But I still prefer the fire method!
