Help an old guy with Myspace, Facebook, etc.

Sign in to disble this ad
I want to have a little web page with recordings of me playing, pictures, etc. to help me get gigs. I set one up on a site called "reverb nation". It was free, easy to set up, and does what I want it to do, but unless I send someone the link, no one will ever see it.

Can you use facebook or myspace for that? Which one is better? I'd like it to be easy to upload pics and sound clips. I'd like it if other local musicians were on the site and we can link to each other's pages. And I'd like NOT to get spam or constant updates about the mundane trivia of everyone's life.

Thanks for any suggestions.

I would recommend Facebook. Set up a "Fan site," start sending "Like" requests to all the other local bands and their' fans. You can put filters on your page so that you will not see, "I woke up late, had a bagel, and we were all out of French Vanilla cream cheese!" statuses

Facebook is MUCH better now in terms of exposure: the site has exploded, and is still growing at a crazy rate. You can post pictures, videos, "discussions(like opening a thread on your page to ask your fans questions), post & share your gigs as "events."

However, I think Myspace is still a better site for a band, in terms of being able to customize the look & feel of it, almost like starting a website from scratch, you can change the background colors & schemes. But the issue is, myspace isn't being used nearly like it was before facebook blew up.

So anyway, I'd start with facebook. Like MrDOS said, start a fan site.

Yea, FB is a lot better. I used to be a MySpace junkie, and signed up for FB when they first came out. The only downfall I wish I could do on FB is personalizing the pages more. I love that option on MS. But FB is more popular now, so I am there most of the time.
