Exclamation Help setting up bass rig

Sign in to disble this ad
I hope I am in the right thread, this is my first post so here it goes.

I am having trouble getting a sound I want, this is my first real bass rig and I was hoping for some opinions and idea's of how to set it up. I am Tool fan, why I don't want there exact sound I do want a Justin/Paul crunch with the mid pop but not so much treble that it gives you a head ache.

I play a 2005 Fender Jazz bass(made in mexico) with a bad ass 3 bridge going through a Gk backline 600 head, DBX 166xl, Behringer 15 band eq, with a 4x10 MBX GK cab(with horn) a 4x10 GLX GK cab(the golden aluminum coned speakers).

Effects: Boss BF-3 Flanger, Boss Overdrive ODB-3, Sansamp tech 21 bass driver DI, Digitech Whammy, Dunlop Bass wha Q-105, Boss compressor/sustainer, and a Boss 7 band eq pedal (soon to be adding the Chours and Digital delay)

By the way I keep the Tech 21 and the Boss Compressor on all the time. But I really need some help here at the moment because I have way to much treble that it give me a headache but when I take it out some treble it gets to "bassie". I just can't seem to get the mid adjusted right or I just need a lesson in all how my equipment works with each other.

Any help would be welcome please and thank you!

Where are you test listening your rig from- stage/playing position or at crowd distance? Also, your rehearsal room is smaller than typical gig spaces. You're most likely getting lots of boundary cancellation, so in a live setting, you'll have more low end.

Good point right for rehearsal we are in my basement, which is a cinder block wall and I'm standing right in front of my cabs and what not.

If your hi frequency driver is too lazer-like in dispersion, you may be in direct firing line. Take it outside, get a long cord, move about, and see what happens.
