Help with TB Search function

Sign in to disble this ad
How many times do we see posts saying "Use the Search Function," on here?

So, we assume that the TB Search tool works.

OK, so, I wanted to add some content about a Tobias that I have to this thread:
Official Tobias Club

But, the thread is a few pages back; and instead of thumbing through thread lists to find it, I went to the advanced search function page, typed in"Tobias" for the topic, selected thread title only, and hit the search button

Here's the thread list I get back:
http://www.talkbass.com/forum/search...archid=6813447
Somehow the thread I am seeking is nowhere to be found, even though it certainly has "Tobias" in the title.

This makes me think that the Search function may not be reliable.

Or perhaps I am missing something (in my brain) and doing something wrong that should not require rocket scientist wizardry to solve.

17 views and no responses.

Is this a for-real issue with TB search? Really?

you can search in individual threads. I have found that when searching in TB, it's easiest to go to the section I want to search (BG FORUM > BASS GUITARS, or DB FORUM > DB CLASSIFIEDS..., etc) and then use the SEARCH FORUM, or SEARCH THIS THREAD links. Otherwise, true it's hard to find what you want.

Usually "Use the Search Function," is a response to a redundant topic that has been discussed countless times (sometimes daily.) So when you're about to Post a new Topic, just hit the SEARCH FORUM link and do a quick search on your topic before starting a new thread. Chances are there's something similar to it on page 5 or so of the sub-forum.

The Google search is also helpful for me to narrow down the Forum my topic is most likely to be found in, if I don't know where to start looking. In any Google search window use the following syntax, "site:www.talkbass.com search term(s)".

Thanks for taking the time to respond.

Of course, I understand the Search "engine" here pretty well. I had just noticed a pretty significant failure in the results, and wanted to see if anyone else had any insight.

I guess it is just the way it is, but seems to me the "Search" capability on the site is pretty unreliable now.
