Any thoughts on shipping a bass with hard shell case such as carrier to use, packaging and what not...any suggestions/comments/past practices appreciated.

I'd like some info on this to. I just sold a bass and am looming for a source for boxes to ship the hard shell case. I've been to a couple music stores and they either didn't have any since they threw them out or the one Fender Squier bass case was a little too thin for for the MM case.

Help

Both UPS and FedEx have packaging services they offer through the UPS Store and Kinkos respectively. They're relatively expensive compared to doing it yourself, but if there is damage to the instrument in shipping, you will have much less difficulty in getting reimbursed for a claim.

Something like these?

I've bought these from Uline, put the hard case in them, and I fill them as much packing material as I can. So far every buyer I've sold to has been happy with my packing jobs.

If anyone has used FedEx or UPS to pack their basses, I'd love to find out what that costs. I know it will be realtively expensive, but if the added cost is reasonable enough it might be good insurance in case of damage during shipping.

Dumpster dive behind Guitar Center, they usually have many guitar boxes in there. Buy some bubble wrap if you can't find any while dumpster diving. Cushion the headstock end of the bass more to take more impact. Make sure the bass doesn't flop around in case - wedge pieces of cardboard or bubble wrap in there to make it stop if it does. Ship via UPS or Fedex, make sure to insure it for the value, and get a signature required option. If you create a label online and drop it off at UPS or Fedex, you will save on the insurance and signature costs.
