Hey Chicago! Rock show recommendation tonight: Wolf People & Unknown Mortal Orchestra
So my wife and I drove from Omaha, NE to Bloomington, IN last night to see one of my favorite bands: Wolf People. They are from the UK and this is their first U.S. tour. Most of the tour is in support of Jagjaguwar label-mates Unknown Mortal Orchestra (also an awesome band.) Last night, however, was a headline gig in Bloomington, which is Jagjaguwar's hometown.
When you drive 10 hours to see a band that you've never seen live, you take a bit of a risk, because some bands sound phenomenal recorded, but are horrible live. Wolf People did not disappoint. They were incredible - nailed everything on their records, but with face-melting energy. If you like good old guitar-driven, psychedelic-yet-folky rock 'n roll, you will love these guys. Plus they are extremely nice people - young British guys who are so humble that they'd never admit being guitar gods. Hahah. They offered my wife and me free T-shirts for driving as far as we did but we insisted on paying.
So anyway, we're heading up to Chicago tonight to see them again at Lincoln Hall. I highly recommend it to any Chicagoland TBer. Venue/show info here:
