Hey Guys A Lined Fretless Isn't A Fretless

Sign in to disble this ad
The whole point of the fretboard being fretless is not even having a marker where the fret would've been. If you can see the marker, it's not fretless because you'll know where the note is.

Technically, it's not fretless because you can see the markers. Just no metal on them.

Um... If there aren't any frets- it's fretless. See how that works?

Hey guys, check out my bass:

See, it's a bass because it has lines on it, so I know where it is. Therefore it's a bass.

No frets = fretless. I don't care how they're marked. Just because I stick a pencil mark on my DB to show me where the 12th fret would be, if it existed, does not make my DB fretted, simply because I now know where the note is.

poop-loops rocks.

and owing to the lack of frets, a lined fretless is a fretless.

The whole point of the fretless is no frets for a smoother sound. Markers have nothing to do with the concept.

Wait a minute, that means if you were to listen to a recording of someone playing the same piece on a so called "lined unfretless" and a so called "fretless" that you could hear the difference?!?!?!

I would LOVE a demonstration of that ability!!!

Complete and utter nonsense. If I were that "Richard" (which fortunately I am not), I would refrain from saying anything else about fretless, ever, until I actually had a clue about what I was talking about.

Frets are the metal bits, so, it is fretless if it has markers!

Your Etch-A-Sketch must have a USB port on it.

I think a fretless P-bass is more of an oxymoron.

Neither I, nor Tony Franklin, agree with that statement
