It sure looked like Nathan East playing bass on American Idol tonight while Ricky conducted the band.

Yep. I missed Nate last night, as well as Randy Jackson playing bass with Mariah Carey. I suppose I'll miss it when and if Pino or AJ play on AI as well

When did Randy play bass w/Mariah? I watched that show and didn't see that. He was in the video when they premiered Paula's new video...I did see that one. :-)

I don't mean to derail the thread, but I was lucky enough to go to a Nathan East in Australia bass clinic a few weeks ago. Incredible player and by all accounts a very nice guy.

I would have thought that a show like AI would have the same band members from week to week? I guess I'm wrong.

The musical director, Ricky Minor, is their regular bass player, but this week he was conducting the orchestra, and it looked like Nathan back there sitting in for him. The whole East family are wonderful people. His brother James played in the band at my company's holiday party, and it was a real pleasure sitting around and jacking jaws with him. Here he is playing my Drozd that night.
