Just sold a bass rig to a guy, he spent over $3000 on an amp and a bass, and put $599 on his visa, so he could tell his wife he only spent 600 bucks on a bass rig.
and that's not all, he was going to paint black over the headstock of his model t schecter, and bright yellow over the markbass logo on his amp, so his wife couldn't look at the brand and figure out it wasn't cheap gear....
and i thought i was bad.
anyone else got sick stories about hiding gear from our better halves?

That way, when something expensive appears, I can say "Oh yeah, but I sold X and Y to pay for it." |

She's stopped noticing. I don't even bother hiding or explaining anymore. The last time I asked her about buying something, she said it was fine as long as rent, bills, etc are all paid off and we have money left over afterwards.
I think the big secret to gear-buying happiness is to marry a women who understands G.A.S.

Shes not as materialistic with gear as me. Thank god for that because we would be broke if she spent as much on clothes etc as ive spent on bikes basses, amps and guitars etc. Oh pedals aswell |

Fortunately, my wife's shoes and purses don't cost anywhere near as much as my gear. She also thinks that Gucci and Prada cough up some hideous designs, and that silver is better than gold. Good score for me, eh?

Rob | Not a reason to be single...
I am married and keep nothing from my wife. She loves the fact that I play and she has no problem at all with my bass dealings.
Maybe all you guys that keep things from your wives just picked the wrong ladies... |

Q: "Why do you need so many basses? Isn't one enough?"
A: "They all suit different purposes... can't you get by with just one little black dress?"
Q: "Why do you need so much gear?"
A: "Um... well at least I'm not into cars/bikes... I only spend 1000s, not 10s of thousands or 100s of thousands!!"
She now uses this reasoning when we have friends over who ask about all the gear! |

Yea, it does for sure.
This is how Jack Nicholsen described how he was able to write about women so well in one of his movies where he played a novelist. "I start with a man, then I remove reason and accountability". Pretty much sums it up for me
