Thumbs down High School Education sucks!!!!

Sign in to disble this ad
Hello.I would like to express my anger through this topic
First of all in my country (Greece) We are not taking in high school music lessons,My opinion ghmmm this completely sucks i have been asking people do you know the bass guitar. The answer i got was what is this ?They didin't have a clue *** was that instrument i tried to explain them but dunno bass needs a lot of explaining they were just too much to understand. So The matter is have all this dumb people forgot what music gives ? What you can get throught music ? I remember at junior high school having lessons about music but you know what the problem was? You could see flying papers above your head.So heyyyyyyyyyy people wake up we need the revolution. All of this students forgot about music they are just giving more matter to the lyrics than the Music it self.Singing some ******** about love and all this ****.Yeah yeah i know love is not ****.But dunno they are listening to the wrong songs. You want love ? go ahead listen to the oldschool music..This kind music was coming through heart no through money

P.s sorry for my english
If i am wrong about that i am totally sorry And by the way do you take any music lessons at high school ? in your country?

Wow. Terrible post beit with grammar and content.

I NEVER had any music in any school I attended. Know what I did? Took it up myself, taught myself for a good while, played in bands growing up. Even just this year at 25 I'm starting lessons in town to learn to sight read and expand my knowledge.

Schools dont stop people from learning, the only thing stopping you is you.

For the record, people will watch you on stage and still have no idea what a bass guitar is.

We are hated among the non-musical populus.

Agree with the last sentence But you must have a motivation to start ...

It is getting that way in the U.S. more and more too.
Guess they have to cut something from the program to buy more foot-ball helmets, I guess...What a shame!

I don't think bass players are hated by non-musicians; most of them either don't notice us, or think we're just playing some sort of weird guitar.... And I suspect this thread should be in Bassists or one of the other sub-forums other than "Basses."

This.

Musicians are, on the whole, known to have higher IQs than non-musicians.

There's all this emphasis placed on scholastic achievement in the high schools these days, and yet they cut art and music for football.

What? You mean high schools are a business too!?

'Tis sad, really.

Threads are placed where they belong- it's not okay to put a thread in Basses if it has nothing to do with basses just to get more views.

I've heard that kids who study music (even if they end up not playing a lot) tend to do better in math (I guess because, in a way, music theory is based as much on math as it is on hearing...). You'd think they'd try to make sure more kids were exposed to music as a result. Instead, it's music and art classes that are the first to get cut, especially when school districts are 'teaching to the test.' What a waste. Of course, even when schools had music classes, you didn't always learn much in the way of music theory; I'll admit I've learned more music theory since starting taking bass lessons a year and a half ago than I did in five years playing flute / taking school-based lessons in flute, orchestra, etc. 'way back when...

It can be that way. We are fortunate in that our district supports arts pretty well. Right now we are in the middle of trying to get about $20 million dollars worth of remodeling/additions to our 2 high schools to help with classroom, performance and storage space for our music, theatre and visual arts programs. Not sure what we'll end up with but at least it's being considered.

School isn't holding you back. You need to take initiative.

Why does High School Education suck? Simply because there's no one who understands your instrument?

I hope you take advantage of your FREE education to the maximum. Many other countries don't have that level of education available, and fewer have it free. Learn as much as you can.

We're often disliked in the musical populace too
