Higher Ground - Marcus Miller

Sign in to disble this ad
Alright, so I tuned my bass down a half step and am now ready to toss it through a wall trying to learn Marcus' version of Higher Ground. I was able to learn all of his song Blast! by ear, but I have tried and failed for awhile now to learn Higher Ground by ear.

Had to vent my frustration a tiny bit by posting here. But I must ask, has anyone learned this song yet? I don't think there's tabs for it, but I'd much rather learn it by ear. I'm just curious, has anyone learned it? If so, some tips?

Saw that video, it's a great performance! It's hard to pick out exactly what Marcus does, but I'm trying LOL

Wouldn't that make it harder to play?
What makes you say this?

Watch the video. He tunes one string. He is doing an octave sound but his hands are doing a different shape.

I think it's more pragmatic than anything else. I've done it as well, and it's really no different than tuning down to D or C, though I guess it's weird insofar that the symmetry of the standard pentatonic/octave shape gets thrown off.
