I didn't care for their post-reunion work much, but it's not that it's bad; it just didn't grab me.
Their vocal harmonies, instrumental ability, and stage presence made their shows well worth attending. I don't get any disdain people have for these guys. I still listen to them all the time. | Quote:

I watched the Eagles Part 1 last night, the vocal harmonies may have be good but so what, the songs were very sappy and they got even worse when Timothy B replaced Randy Meisner. Glen Frey and Don Henley both come across as real dicks - Again IMHO | And there you have the two sides of it. I'm with mellowinman.

And I see exactly the opposite.

But, it was still a group effort for parts of many other songs. Didn't really see where either guy, Henley or Frey were exceptionally prick-ish but then again, I wasn't in the band...so I can't be sure.

Great band that got a little 'top heavy' as time went by. IMO |

To me VH sums up everything wrong about the 80's.
We agree on Rush and the Police though. Also on Randy Meisner. The Eagles were at their best (IMO) before Walsh and Tim B. They should have kept Bernie.

| | | I have absolutely nothing against any lineup of the Eagles or their songs but I do agree on both stances about the group. Good band with good vocals and catchy songs but I can see where others do not think they are as great as many people make them out to be. Many people do love them and we get lots of requests for their songs.
They were at the the right time combining rock, pop, and country (which appeals to a wider audience) but they followed other groups that were just as good in every area and were a direct result of the Eagles existence such as Poco, The Flying Burrito Brothers, The Byrds, Pure Prairie League, and others. One of those bands might have reached the level of commercial success as The Eagles just as well.
P.S. Randy Meisner's bass work on One Of These Nights made that song. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RmmWJBwxvz0 |

By the way, Rush's debut album only came out two years after the Eagles' did.

I remember seeing Chicago for 10$ in the 70"s, the scary thing Is I'm not making much more money than I made then.

I've been a fan since they started and Frey and Henley might not be the most modest guys out there, but they sure wrote great songs. With a band stacked with great voices, even Frey admitted to not being able to compete with Henley's vocals. Writing songs the are part of the zeitgeist of a time in history is nothing to sneeze at. It's great craftsmanship, and sometimes art.

That being said, in terms of combining great songwriting with ridiculous talent, the Eagles are one of the greatest bands of all time. |
