Its weird. recently ive had some buzzing, and first it was like my lower part of hand, and tbers suggested it might be tunnel syndrome (not carpal, but that elbow one). But then it started to feel like some weak electricity was buzzing through different parts of my hand/arm occasionally, but just a bit. And then it kinda went away, and now i feel it in the pinky whenever i say, write on the keyboard. But whenever i play bass, after maybe a few min or even seconds of playing using my middle or/and ringfinger, they seem to go more numb as i keep playing. Kinda feels like they buzz and tad, and then not really loose more feeling, but they do feel kinda numb.
The feeling seems to be from the joint that combines the part that you touch the string with to the tip of my finger.
Hard to explain really.
I think its not only when i play, but also when i use it for things like the computer keyboard, but im not sure.
Is it something that will have to be checked? i havent noticed it getting worse, but it kinda feels unconfortable and its made me play mostly with a pick lately:/ Im kinda worried.
see doctor or hope that it goes away by itself? |

I can't make a prognosis over the internet, but I will tell you that numb fingers are a telltale symptom of Carpal Tunnel Syndrome. Get yourself to a doctor and learn the physical therapy (stretching, excersizes) and ergonomic techniques that you need. If you can find a doctor who specializes in sports and music injuries, do that.
Using a pick is injurious to the tendonitis in my wrist, so I mostly play with fingers. You may be the opposite!

But since then i tried to keep my wrist straight, and not rest on my elbow, and itb made it better. But okay. thanks!
Its just so weird. Im only 15, and never played bass alot since when i started (about 9months), only 30-1hour a day, and sometimes even less
Guessing its all the time infrotn of the damn computer. |

It is caused by either repeated flexing of the elbow or by resting on your elbows for long periods of time. Many people rest on their elbows while sleeping. I started seeing signs of it because I rested my left elbow on my door while commuting.
If it were your ring and pinky fingers going numb, I'd be almost certain that's what it is. But if it really is your middle finger, I don't know. But yeah, definitely see a doctor. |

And for the record, I have both cubital and carpal tunnel syndromes in my right side. Not fun.

Thing is, only my index has something that can even be remotely called a callous. So i tried playing really hard with my index for a while, and started to get the same feeling or atleast close too. And so im wondering, since i just got a new bass and the old had pretty dead strings. Could it be that? Ijust need to build callouses? I wonder then why ididnt feel it the first 2 days of playing the new bass, although i didnt exactly play as crazy.
Just making sure.
Besides, my wrist never gave any problem, neither any other part of my arm, and inever feelt pain. But maybe its just an early stage?
