Cover? That's just a bassline... Not even that well played. There's room for improvement in the timing.

Listen to http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=45GATIBElbI. There's some real groove from the artist who wrote the song.

I would have been more impressed if he played something he wrote himself. (player in OP).

I don't know. I thought the RHCP cover of that one Stevie Wonder song was better

Don't take it personally dude. People on here are fanatical about our instrument. Even Flea's version gets ragged on quite a bit (deservedly, IMO). A poor imitation of that is certainly going to get targeted.

Sorry.

I can totally see why you thought that was cool. I cannot technically slap anywhere near as well as that guy in the video... However, he did the typical show-off mistake - he overestimated his abilities and let the timing and groove suffer for the sake of showing off his chops. I hear when someone is out of time, and that guy was. Timing is THE most important thing when it comes to bass playing. If you haven't got timing, you have nothing.

Not true. I didn't say that anyway. I dig Higher Ground, but it's really not an impressive piece (RHCP version). I think every young bassist drools over Flea, especially over Higher Ground. Broaden your tastes, listen to as much as you can... There is SO much amazing stuff out there.
