You know, I'm not a metal fan at all so I kinda hate that Finland has the reputation of "Land of Heavy Metal"

Why England?
With a single focus for the "Great musicians" to congregate, it was easier to break out from the London market.

USA had at least 3 major "focal points" - NY, LA, Chicago. (Nashville doesn't count for Rock). And if one was 'stuck' in a "B" class market, it was hard to migrate to "A" class.

Let's see England produce a band of the calibre of the great Black! Oak! Arkansas!

You forgot The Beatles!

Didn't all those bands start out covering American Rhythm and Blues?

You have to love how subjective the word "greatest" truly is. I for one can't stand many of the bands that came out of the UK, but that's the beauty of a personal opinion

And if we want to talk metal, how about Lamb of God, Slayer, Mastodon, Pantera, Fear Factory, Mudvayne, Nevermore, and Shadows Fall? They certainly didn't come out of Finland.

wasnt the English movement brought up from the Blues players from the south here.i think at that time in rock history the english bands were listening to southern blues cats and turning it into rock and over here we still had alot of race issues ,which caused alot of bands to not see what was right in front of them. JUST MY OPINION. There were some great bands from here . But the english bands of those days really took the music and ran with it.

Uuuuuh...I don't like most of those. What about Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Angel Witch, Diamond Head, Judas Priest, Tygers of Pan Tang, Sabbat, Bolt Thrower, Napalm Death, Carcass, Motorhead and Skyclad? They didn't come out of Finland or America.

Anyway, I don't think anyone wants this thread to turn into a "MY COUNTRY HAS BETTER MUSIC THAT YOURS SO HAH" affair.

Greatest is subjective.but you have a good point . You missed a few Like Eric Burdon who was one of the most influential of all. And was also greatly influenced by American Blues .Rock IMO came from directly from the blues of the southern USA .and the Enlish Bands got way into it .

Very subjective, howbout Lamb of god, Killswitch Engage, Mastodon, Mudvayne, Every time I die. All great modern american metal bands, I really love ETID, nobody can cop their style, dont even know if you can really call it metal even. Mastodon is just amazing, and I know Mudvayne isn't too great when it comes to metal fans but they have the best basslines in metal, their bassist is a genius.

If I remember correctly, Taj mahal once said something like this: "When Elvis Presley started to ruin Blues, it fled to England"
