How can people listen to Death Metal without laughing?

Death Metal is one of the funniest thing I have ever heard. Me and some friends were sitting about discussing music, and somehow Death Metal got brought up.

We downloaded a bunch for comic relief. I have nothing against the music personally, but it's just hilarious to listen to for me. There is an entire sub-culture of fans of this genre, but how do they listen to this stuff without laughing? I guess some people take it seriously, but it sounds hilarious. Once the vocalist enters the mix with those growls, I can't help myself. Funny stuff indeed.

... I guess I should try harder than that...

...

Alright, it's not for everyone. But mocking an entire genre without listening to a decent amount of it sounds like the actions of a moron.

I hate 50 Cent... I don't hate rap.
I hate Toby Keith... I don't hate country
I hate 80s Rush... I don't hate Rush.

No, I'm not going to recommend some Death Metal to change your mind, because frankly, I don't give a damn. I hate 50 percent of Death Metal. But it is incredibly musically valid. I'd like to see you attempt to make a Necrophagist esque song.

Vocals? I'd like to see you come up with something more fitting to go over a Death Metal song. A atonal approach is the only solution to some chaotic Death metal.

Most Metal guys don't take their craft too serious (Minus some Black Metal guys) Cannibal Corpse don't literally mangle people. They are the musical equivalent to a horror movie. A lot of newer Death metal bands skip the whole gorefest thing, and take more serious lyrical approach... and yes, I can understand some of the vocalists.

I could say that all punk music is garbage without having listened to Bad Brains... etc.... you're still a moron for making such a broad assumption.

I suppose it's an aquired taste. I used to think it was wierd/funny. Now I just like how raw those growls sound. Goes great with the double bass drums and unison g*****/bass riffs. It's awesome when I'm in the right mood. And some of it has pretty melodic elements as well. It's just as varied as most other genres.

I don't like Death Metal. Don't think it's funny.
I actually listened to Cannibal Corpse lyrics once and it grossed me out. I know that judging the many by the few is wrong, but if Cannibal Corpse (and Marilyn Manson) is indicitive of the genre, I don't want to listen to it at all.

I also think it's hilarious. I can appreciate it as an art form, but it definitely makes me laugh when I hear it.

Most things that try to be really serious and epic make me laugh. Plenty of prog rock makes me laugh, and I generally dig prog rock.

Marylin Manson is NOT Death Metal.

Morbid Angel are brilliant musicians; the lyrics and vocals are just garnishes to help round out and fill up the sound. They are absurd, but that misses the point. The idea is similar to that of like watching an Italian horror film, well-made, sometimes very thought-provoking, but overall really ****ed up.

How can people like Jazz? I hate Jazz! It makes me laugh!

Pretty much the same thing, man. Matt Till said it best and you're still an idiot.

Notice: I don't really hate Jazz, I just used it to let you see that music is all about TASTE. You may like whatever you want but you can't come in saying Music $rand sucks because I said so.

I dont mind the sound of the instruments but vocals to me is just rediculous. Every single song sounds like the devil himself has been summoned from the bowels of hell and you can't understand *** he's saying. With me that gets old real fast. Both my teenagers are musicians and neither one of them listens to death metal at all.

I know I still laugh when I hear Cannibal Corpse's cover of Zero the Hero by Black Sabbath.

Some of it is just so bad it's funny. But on the whole, I enjoy it.

Can you list the bands you listened to?

Try some later Death, At the Gates, Atheist, and Cynic. Also Necrophagist and Suffocation.

Those bands don't have the "OMG I'M GUNNA KILL YOU GRR!!" lyrics, but are still death metal. When I first started to listen to DM, CC grossed me out, too. So things like Death and AtG was "easier" to listen to because it wasn't about violence, but still had all the anger behind it. Then I just eased into CC, but still don't take the lyrics seriously. It's like a B-movie slasher.
