| | | | How can you be a drummer and not have a place to play?

My band has been looking for a drummer recently, we found a great one but he couldn't play softly (for those slow melodic parts) so the search continued, he was very loud as well. Every drummer I talk to doesn't have practice space. How can you be a drummer and not have practice space? They're usually the loudest band member, and need room. Some complain that they can't have a lot of noise where they live (but it's okay when they're playing 20 minute drum solos when they're alone)
We can play with practice amps as well as larger amps.
In my current situation we practice with headphone amps because of young kids that go to bed early, so we're hoping to find a drummer with practice space. I have drummers come here but practice time is limited from 6-9pm Fri and Sat nights, because of kids. |

How about investing in an electric drum set to run through the headphones? |

| | | | I know one guy with an electronic set but he's into covers only. He didn't want to invest his time into an originals project. Everyone wants the money right away... |

Without going into the whole "what's 'better' discussion," I've made more money playing a summer's worth of cover shows than I did playing originals for 20 years.

| | | | For a lot of drummers I know, it's a space thing. I can fit a drumset in my bedroom, but I can't fit a whole band.
Or how 'bout instead of sitting around whining, and waiting for a drummer with a practice space to fall into your lap, you go and rent one? I don't know where you live exactly, but to find a cheap place around here isn't very hard.

Drummers can practice quiet enough to not upset neighbors just like bassists and guitiarist, and as such, should not be expected to already have access to a legitimate practice space. Go and get one yourself. |
