If you're familiar with some of my posts then you'll know that I, like all of you, am a frequent sufferer of Gear Acquisition Syndrome. But what you may not know is that I have this girlfriend, Sarah, with her own version of Gear Acquisition Syndrome. I like to call it Pet Acquisition Syndrome. However, I object to pets in our apartment. So what did we do? Like any responsible couple we made a compromise. Under the terms of this compromise I am to receive from Sarah a new piece of musical gear for every new pet she acquires.
Recently Sarah has been PASing for a ferret (god I hate those things!) and since this is her first pet and she's short on cash I thought I would go easy on her and accept another Nano Small Stone, which will arrive tomorrow by the way (if anyone's curious I could do some clips). My GAS is relieved! And plus ferrets don't have too long of a life span and I know she'll be needing to replace it eventually... not to mention the long list of pets on her PAS list... Hahahahaha |

My GAS was an addiction, making me spend all my time on TB and spending money I couldn't really afford to spend. My name is Dan, and I am a GASaholic. I'm trying to stay clean though, and haven't bought a pedal in 4 weeks...
I am now in 'rehab', having quit my band (last night!) and put my amp and pedals up for sale (today!). I'm going to go on a FX journey and see what's possible with just my laptop, Ableton Live, VST plugins, firewire recording interface and a MIDI controller pedal. The advantage here is, that if I want to try a plugin, I can try it out for free from audionews or magesy rather than search/beg for clips. I can combine amp models with crazy FX chains and realtime audio-to-MIDI conversion to trigger any synth I want. It's gonna take a lot of fiddling, but it'll be fun! |

Eventually you will have a zoo/Tom Bowlus collection with the pets pissing and chewing on all your gear. Some of the pets may decide to live IN the gear.

Sucks you have to dedicate a room to the ferret... cause it'll stink up that room in no time! :/ |

I see the protocol, though - she gets a small pet, you get a small piece of gear.
You need her to get something larger.
Let her get a medium-sized dog so you can get a bass.
A pony ought to get you an SVT classic...

I also compete with a Budda Superdrive 18W amp so my rig is big enough. We're not too loud of course but loud enough for me to get feedback on my amplifier when I want it and whatnot, and plus I don't have to break my back hauling gear. It's pretty great!
Unfortunately Sarah only wants small animals, but we have other compromises that will get me the guitars and amps! I really want to get a Fender 57 Deluxe to try biamping with it!
And I do have a promise that she'll do everything in her power to keep that ferret from stinking but man those things do reek! We've had ferrets before so, yeah. |

My wife once questioned why I needed another P bass. I countered by asking why she needed another pair of black pumps. She turned and walked out of the room without another word. |
