How do I form a band? I'm in New Jersey

Sign in to disble this ad
Every since moving to jersey in 2001 I cant seem to join a band. I need some tips. I have no friends and I don't hang out much because i'm new to the area and i've been playing for 4 years. I'm looking to join a band with either two guitarist or one. No keyboards.

I ran ads in the paper and on craiglist with no avail. What should I do? I think the problem is that everyone where i live is into hip hop and not rock music. But i'm willing to travel but not too far. I live in orange NJ. Can you guys help me out?

How can you not like keyboards? When used properly, they are an amazing musical tool. Rock keys? Check out Faith No More and more importantly Hawkwind.

It is my goal to have every single person on here listen to Hawkwind at some point in their lives.

if you notice the volume of people here talking about how much they dont know if they shoudl leave their band or not. take that into consideration when you go to other local shows, ask other people if they want to jam with you and maybe you can steel them

It's because you're competing with me

Actually, in this area I've found that just about EVERYONE plays bass. Seriously.

My graduating class in high school contained 152 kids. 17 played bass. 6 played guitar. 2 drummers.

If you play it, they will come...

Just play really really loud, and someone is bound to show up. Maybe the cop that comes to tell you to quit will play drums.

I posted an ad on another messageboard. It was a horror messageboard, so I figured horror and metal go together, so there's got to be someone out there that wanted to have a band. So, lo and behold, I'm in a band with 3 guys from Jersey.

There's this musician guy I know of, lives round your way. He's getting on a bit now, but he might still be worth auditioning. I just wish I could remember his name...

Got it. Bryce Ringstein!

No, that's not it. Don't worry, it'll come to me...

Spruce Ringtone? Nope.

Moose Clingfilm?

Fred Flintstone?

No, I give up. Damn. Sorry.

I don't like Dream Theater's keyboard approach... it cheeses everything up even more than it already is... cheesed. (IMO... this isn't a dis DT thread). NIN and Manson do make good use of keyboard as well, but with Hawkwind's 70s material... it just makes everything amazingly trippy.

Furthermore, on the subject of better known bands: Pink Floyd would suck (not really) without keys.

P.S. I'm a hippie (well, musically)... our opinions may vary.

Im gonna check out this Hawkwind band. I love keyboards & metal!

EDIT: I just listened to a few seconds of a couple songs and it sounds horrible. Space Rock? No thanks... I advise everyone to not download this garbage unless you are tripping off acid or shrooms.

Ig-nor-ant

Some people don't like trippy music, some do. You don't need drugs to appreciate Space Rock. I never said they were metal. A few seconds of a couple songs.... yeah, that's a good way to get what a band is about. I'd imagine I wouldn't have liked them when I was 16 either though. It also depends on the era of Hawkwind... I hate their 80s material. But some people only like music with phenomenal production, that might have something to do with it. I think listening to Warrior on the Edge of time (album) all the way through might change your mind, but then again, it might not, I don't care.
