How does online shopping work?

Im a complete ****** at that, and have no former experience...how
do you buy stuff from ebay, or from the talkbass buy/sell forum?

Like can someone explain to me the procedures?

For eBay you have to register there and open a new account. The thing that may be troubling is the method with which you choose to pay. Either you register a new paypal account (giving it your CC number) and pay with that, or you choose alternative payment methods like checks or money orders.

On TB you PM the person selling and work out a deal.

You can pay by credit card on eBay and then don't have to have a paypal account!

I do about 90% of my shopping online, have for about a decade now I suppose.

Yes but this requires you to give out your CC info for every purchase to the seller. Paypal is more confidential.

No - the payment is processed by PayPal, but you don't have to set up an account!

Really? Back in the day you had to create a new paypal account to make a payment, guess they changed it.
