How do you determine your band name? My original band name was Mini Golf but we want to change it. Everything we come up with isnt too great. I'd like some help on finding a new band name.

Did you delete that green day thread? Damn, I had a revelation that I wanted everyone to know.

There are band name generators on the web I think. Google might help.

Quotes and titles from songs, books, and movies you and your bandmates like are good place to start... I always wish Kathleen Turner Overdrive wasn't used in High Fidelity, that's such a killer name

Here's a method:

Pick three nouns. The first one should be the name of a material, the second, the name of a place and the last one the name of a profession. i.e. Stone Temple Pilots

You could be the:

Sawdust Ocean Monitors,

Plastic Hallway Rangers,

Acid Forest Lifeguards

Mix and match.

My circle of friends have been using (ripping off?) fake band names from movies or TV shows. (I never knew that Kathleen Turner Overdrive came from High Infidelity, but there's an example.) One recurring name for an alt-country side project with revolving membership is The Sow Belly Trio, which was taken from an old Bugs Bunny cartoon. With that in mind, here's some:

Jet Screamer (from the Jetsons)
Evolution Revolution (from Lance Link, Secret Chimp)
The Mosquitos (from Gilligan's Island)
Lords of the Underworld (South Park)
The Enjoyable Popular Music Boys (from National Lampoon magazine)

I like the way Kathleen Turner Overdrive was created. In that vein, you could use the title of an old Tad album, Infra-Red Riding Hood.

Whenever I had tapes I didn't want stolen in my truck, I would mark them with made-up band & album names. The best ones are where you can't tell which is the name, and which is the title.

Currently I am using 'Meanwhile, Elsewhere' and 'Cause & Defect'.

Sometiimes I write 'Mohammed Chang', because even though Mohammed is the most common first name in the world, and Chang is the most common last name in the world...you never meet Mohammed Chang.

How about calling yourself the Tapehead Cleaners?

Very good!!

One band I was in nearly came to blows and split over choosing a name. This time was easier, but 'Riptide' - it's nothing to write home about..... and I've discovered not only is there a band of the same name in the States, there are cd's around from the late 90's from a band of the same name too
