I found it HILARIOUS 'cause that is EXACTLY how I started....one of my friends was a (classically trained and awsome) keyboard player who picked up guitar easily. My other friend was a "decent" drummer so they "needed" a bass player to complete the "Traid" (the name of our first band - sad I know! but hey we were in high school...).

anyways, I grew to REALLY love the bass and the groove we can set down.....I have realized that we ARE important to the music!

And don't you "other musicians" EVER for get that!!!

I laughed. It was funny.

But I can't relate. I am of the age that the Beatles were what I grew up with. I always liked Paul best. Always listened to the bass. The bass grabbed me in anything I listened to. Still does, most of the time. If they would have said "you get bass" I would have jumped up and yelled YES! and got down to it. So, I guess I'm not that guy.

I call bass.

Total +1

When I was growing up, the bass player was the man! This is a function of the music we were listening to (Chameleon, Brickhouse, Papa Was a Rolling Stone, Good Times, etc.) but "Bass" was the shiznit.

Back in my day, being the Bass player was NOT a bad thing! (Still ain't!)

I thought that was frigin' hilarious!

I am also one of those who has developed a love of "holding down the groove" I am also proud to say that I am the most "animated" member of the band.

ROFLMAO....It was a question that always drove me crazy when I was younger. People would come up to me before and after gigs and ask: "I tried to learn to play guitar, but it was too hard...wouldn't bass be easier because it only has four strings?" A lot of guys I knew actually crashed out of guitar and picked up the bass. Most of them were pretty lousy players. In my case I went to a live show and was transfixed watching and listening to the bass player. After that, I had to go out and buy a bass.

Misc forum, or maybe Bass Humor...?

I know you get more views/replies if you post it in Basses, since this where most of us surf, but there's a reason that TB isn't one huge page...
