How to introduce band members

Sign in to disble this ad
We have a show coming up next on the 5th, and for a part in the set I have to introduce my fellow band members and myself. I was wondering if there is anything cool to call the guitar player/drummer with some humor.

Ok, here is how were doing it:

after La Villa Strangiato...

Me: Thank you, we need to take about a one minute breather so I will introduce the band. On guitar we have Spencer.(he starts playing Muffin Man riff quietly, while drummer plays beat quietly). On drums we have Garrett. (I do a slide down the neck and we go into the song). 4 bars later I say,"And yours truly on bass." and go back into the song.

Can you please change this up so it makes me sound a little less unprofessional and more like I kinda know what I'm doing. Haha.

Thanks,

Derek

I was in this one band where the frontman would say "And now I'd like to introduce the band. Frank, this is Jerry. Jerry, meet Paul." ..meanwhile the band members are shaking hands and acting like they just met.

I don't hear a problem in what you're doing now. Add in last names and you sound like pros.

My band almost never bothers to do this (unless it's a huge show). But, for some reason, my trumpet player always introduces me during my bass solo in one song. It's actually really annoying.

I always like it when bandmember A introduces bandmember B, B intros C, etc., each saying something complimentary about the next guy or gal.

That would be preferable to the way my bandleader intro'd me last time: "he's got a new haircut, green shirt, black shoes." I hadn't realised the audience was blind and needed a verbal description of my look.

Unfortunately if they were the average audience, they needed it specifically brought to their attention that your band does, in fact, have a bass player and also ... which guy is it?

I never introduce my band at a certain time - I always just say something like "Say hello to my friend Dan on the guitar" or something of the sort after a tune he does a great solo on or something. The fact of the matter is, most people don't care about your names....

ive never been fond of this at all. at least not making a giant spectacle of it. subtle little things in the break of a song or something, right before said member does something cool, maybe.

the only time i liked being introduced was with my first show with my new band. right before some ridiculously huge solo, my singer just points and says "he's new". and then i melted their faces.

Since you're playing La Villa Strangiato, you could go off like Big Al and yuk it up like he does in his La Villa/Closer to the Heart rants.

RBF ftw.

I have an mp3 of Rush playing Closer to the Heart live, and they go into a drum and bass break, and alex starts introducing the band.

"On stage left, wearing blue jeans, black shoes and a bass guitar, is the fabulous Jaja Gabor! Hope you're not a c*ck, she might slap ya- Right over here, wearing a interesting hat and vest, with facial hair, is the wonderful Bob Barker! Come on down! don't forget to spay your dogs and cats! And as for me, well, i figured you recognized me, i'm the fantastic... Fabio! Stand back girls!"

and then go right back into the song.

id ditch the whole playing behind the introductions, unless its a real rockin groove and when you say their name, they solo or something to make whoever was mentioned noticed. (definately dump the muffin man thing, however awsome it is!)

just say the names (on guitar, _________, and so on) or add some comedy into it to liven up the audience if its that kind of crowd. (on saxophone, 3 time Miss america pagent winner _________!) our sax player is "gravitationally" challenged and a little bit fugly, so this gets the audience every time. he RIPS though.

or, just say a bunch of true, horrible facts about the members of your band that they are sensitive about.

"and here we have _____ on guitar, whose girlfriend is cheating on him with our drummer, ____!! And to my left is ____, who was adopted!! _____, on saxophone, is actually a bulemic man!"

Please please please include last names! That is a pet peeve of mine! I've been in several bands and the leader just says the first names! I feel that is so impersonal!!

I.E.: "On bass and background vocals.......Dave Walmsley, y'all....Dave Walmsley"

And do this when you are winding down the show (last tune).

i would have included the last names, but I wasn't sure if they want me posting their last name on the internet.
