I've been for 2 years (3 in september)

Edit: There was supposed to be another vote saying "30 years +". Post a comment if you've played for 30 years or longer with how long you've been playing

I've been seriously playing bass for the last 4 years now. However, I started playing guitar when I was 5 and off and on since then. Also, I have been playing drums pretty consistently for about 20 years now.

Oh my God I just did the math. I have been playing 49 years and next Spring it will be a half a Century. I can hardly believe I am saying that.
I still gig all the time but not as much as I would like. I have 3 band projects and a weekly jam going right now.
I truly believe that playing music will keep you young at heart. Especially if you keep your ears open and keep learning.

Probably around 25 years or so now, on bass guitar. I started playing upright last November and I've been enjoying it so much that if I hadn't been in a band that requires BG for six years and don't want to quit I'd probably switch to upright full time.

Technically my second go around.

Played for 10 years. Quit all music for 18 years. Picked up the bass again 5 years ago.

Unlike a some others with similar layoffs like mine, for all intents and purposes I had to learn all over again.

I got my first bass on Christmas Eve, 1985 -- so 25 years now.

I'm playing as much as I can, but life sneaks up and gives you other priorities (kids) that take away from playing time.

Then again, I bought my daughter a drum set recently, so now she and I can jam...

Which reminds me; here's "old guy" advice to the newbies out there -- WEAR EARPLUGS!!

If you think wearing earplus isn't cool or macho, remember that the alternative is wearing hearing aids...

A little over 3 years, but I've played piano since I was six, stopping a little after I got my first bass. I'm only 16 and it's been a really fast trip, my worship pastor says I'm the best at our church and I've been told by a sound tech at Gaither stduios that I should pursue it professionally... No pressure.
