I've been playing about three years and I still only have a couple of songs I'm confident enough to sing while playing.

I was never comfortable with singing, but I did lead vocals in a grind/rock/dropped d/heavy band for about 3 years. We were kinda a mix of heavier primus, lighter pantera, and helmet all in one.

I finally got tired of singing to focus on more elaborate basslines and ending up singing on the album anyway and we just had a "live" singer.

Pretty funny.

I've been playing bass for about 7 years (full time bass duties), and I sing backups on about 20 songs, but I'm still not comfortable.

FWIW, I can play guitar and sing lead or backup without even thinking about it...

I'm pretty comfortable with most backing vocal duties. When it comes to singing lead, it does limit me.

I've been playing on and off for 5 years and I can't sing and play at the same time.. it takes a certain kind of coordination that I really don't have.. lol If I do try I always end up singing in the same pitch at the note I'm playing even if I don't mean to...

I can do it, but I don't really like to. While playing guitar it is second nature. Either way, I still suck at singing.

It has only been about the past 3-4 years that I have been singing lead and playing. But I've always sung harmonies and back-up while playing. My hesitancy to sing lead vocals was more about the confidence than anything else.

Now that I'm regularly singing lead vocals, I find it to be very comfortable .....

Depends... At church, I can sing stuff I already know REALLY well (like hymnds, etc)... I can even do tenor while I play bass if I REALLY REALLY know it... some songs I can sing if they have simple bass lines, like lotsa repeated eighths, etc... Could not get the Sha La Las on Brown eyed girl whilst playing that bassline though... I can do Walking on the Moon, the Apologetix parody of 1985, and a couple praise songs like It Is You and Holy is the Lord...

I can sing Money by Pink Floyd, and Lacquer Head by Primus (plus a few in between).

But that's about it :/

I had been singing for 20 years when I picked up bass. Bass player didn't show, so I figured I could do the odd root. I was VERY surprised to find myself quite at ease, so the bass stays on. I suppose answer to OP must be about 20 minutes...

A year and a half later, and I'm seriously considering cutting back lead vocals to be able to enjoy bass playing better.

About 3 years before I tried to do it.
