I usually play as loud as I play at home, volume and gain at about 11 o'clock, which I think is pretty reasonable. But I friggin hate the guys that go into the bass section simply to blow out the eardrums of the other players in the vicinity. I think its disrespectful and consider those guys amatures. So, how loud do you think is too loud when your trying out BASSES, not amps?

If I'm trying out an amp, I would put it up a bit higher, just to see if it can last at "gig volumes" without breaking up. |

| | | | The one time I bought a bass in a shop I played it for 15mins unplugged, 2 mins plugged in to a tiny practise amp to check the electronics, and 20mins haggling on the price. If it worked, I knew what it sounded like.
The time I bought an amp in a shop I rattled the place - felt self conscious, but needed to be done.

Then, I butcher the intro to portrait of tracey for about 20 minutes, flip my hair out of my eyes and walk away, after leaving the bass leaning on the amp and plugged in.

But, on another note....
I like to go into the guitar room and just FLAIL AWAY with some LOUD whammy bar distortion stuff. You'd think Steve Vai was there.... |
