methinks just because someone is the best there is at a thing doesn't guarantee them success at that thing.
something we all need to think about.

something we all need to think about. | Why do we need to think about it?
Define success. |

The notes can't just be low, though; what makes the hairs stand up on my arms is rich, resonant timbre. Most of the deep male voices I've come across have been in Jazz, blues, and R&B; Billy Eckstine, Joe Williams, Lou Rawls, and Barry White come immediately to mind.
Who are some other widely-respected bass vocalists known for both a low range and a musical presentation?
Who are some other prominent human-powered bass instrumentalists? Baritone saxophonists? Bass trombonists? Tuba players?

"Vince Giordano began his odyssey into the world of music at the age of five. The discovery of a slew of 78-rpm-period records in his grandmother's attic, ranging from grand opera to Joe "King" Oliver, ignited the flame. He soon learned tuba, string bass, and bass saxophone. By the age of 15, he was a working musician." http://www.riverwalkjazz.org/profiles_giordano/ http://www.riverwalkjazz.org/jazznotes/sax/

Did you even look at the link? My bet is that the Gyuto Tantric choirs go every bit as low as the guy with the certificate. They simply don't care enough to call Guinness.

Not that 10Hz is anything a mere mortal would interpret as musical. And one supposes that is the true discussion. At what point, HZ wise, is it not musical anymore, which I'm sure is a cool biophysical/cognitive discussion.
To wit, that dudes low voice doenst sound musical TO ME. Yet, when I heard a contra-bass in a foreign men's choir once, that dude shook the stage.
Is it my ears, my cognition, or is it simply non-musical at that low Hz?
Then what is musical??????

Corpsegrinder for one. Even though people don't like his vocals, he's still really talented | | Thread Tools | Search this Thread | | | |
