Here on talkbass, I sense a lot of solidarity among bass players, and lots of animosity to guitarists. But, when push comes to shove, are you more loyal to the treble end of your band or to other bassists? When I'm talking to other musicians after a gig I don't really have anything more or less to say to fellow bassists then guitarists, and I'd always rather talk to my guitarist than someone from another band. So am I an ashamed bottom-dweller? What exactly do others perceive to be the limits of this bass brotherhood? |

Bassists dotn usually get alot of love but we are being just as low if we pick on guitarists. Personally I dig any musician , no matter the instrument, if they can truly play . Keys , guitar , drums , bass. I know on here guitarists are generally portayed as haveing a huge ego but I know quite a few bassists who are like that. I really like talking to all musicians after a gig . I usually tend to talk to my drummer , but as for the other groups , the first person ill talk to is the bassist probably. |

This idea of bassist v guitarist v whoever is really silly IMO. Is not everyone musicians first and foremost. As for who you talk to afterwards : who cares Why not the barman/doorman ect |

When I play a gig, I usually talk to the bassists the most. I talk to all the members of the bands, but I have more to talk about with the bassists... |

but most musicians I encounter at bar gigs and stuff aren't especially wonderful musicians, and I find it hard to not be more judgemental and less forgiving about other bass players than I would, say, about guitarists or singers.. simply because I'm more familar with what can be done with the instrument etc... but a bass player who kicks ass and I think I can learn from, yeah there's a bond
the anti-guitarist stuff is half in jest but it stems from guitarists frequently seeing bass players as their 'backing guy'... the guy who straightens the chairs in preparation for the guitarist's display of 'genius'... self-elevation which usually isn't 100% justified
at gigs i'd rather talk to new people than the guys in my band though, I can talk to those guys any time.. but I usually don't really want to talk about music to musicians much anyway after just playing for 2 hours

I consider myself a musician fist and formost, but I have yet to run across another community like TB. I don't know what it is about the Bass but this is by far the best musical based web site I have come across. The interaction on all levels and subjects is amazing.
I like all musicians, but I have to say, I'm more loyal to bassists.
The only problem is GAS. I start playing the Drums after being used to PRS/Marshall, MTD/Eden. Can I get a Pearl or Ludwig export set to start? NOOOOOO. He's got to get a DW set right off the bat. TB has spoiled me.
