Question How many have or will take advantage of the recent promotional discount sales?

Sign in to disble this ad
Like the title says. Have the discounts from MF and or GC been enough to get you to buy something recently?

Just courious to know how many are taking advantge or plan on taking advantge of these advertised discounts.

Also, have you seen local or any of the small dealers lowering thier prices given the big discounts that have been offered by the aformentioned two large music chains? Have you been able to get these other dealers to lower their prices based on what MF and GC have done in the way of price discounts?

I am debating whether or not to purchase a combo amp for P&W band rehearsal starting next week, and a DI box for church services.

When the promotions hit 20% off including most of their product (not a few limited brands) and free shipping, that's when I'll buy.

Ordinarily, I'd agree with your assessment, but around my parts, there are very few "deals" to be had via CL. I'm seeing lots of PA gear, but not that many intriguing basses or guitars.

Absolutely...my gear beats anything on the wall at GC...I have never understood how they expect to sell basses when no one bothers to even do a basic set up on their inventory.

I'm all spent-out after xmas and wedding expenses. Might get a couple of household things but can't afford anything non-essential for a while, no matter how cheap.

Let me start by saying,.. I do NOT work for GC or any other music chain, this is just what I've found over the last month, and have been pretty pleasantly surprised by it.

I have done a pretty fair amount of buying and trading, new and used, over the last month. Most of it has been through the GC website, although the final bass I settled on came from right here on TB.

I've found some pretty incredible buys on the GC used pages. Such as, a Conklin gt-7 for $549.99, a stealth bongo 5 for $799.99, which I bought. Also purchased a MTD KZ6 fretless for $699.99. Free shipping on both basses, and both were in excellent condition. There currently is an Alembic Rogue 6 string for $1199 that I was REALLY tempted to get. But then I realized there is a limit to my wifes patience and understanding. Someone here on TB shold jump on this one,..it is WAY underpriced!

With the 15 - 20% cyber monday deals and the additional take 50 bucks off on purchases over X amount, there are some GREAT deals to be had right now. I used to work for a mom and pop music chain, and really prefer doing business with the "little guy" over a big chain. The bottom line is though, there's no way that a local M&P can compete with such a vast inventory, especially in the "used" market.

I hope I don't come off as a GC fanboy, I was just really surprised at how many truly good deals I found on thier website in the past month. Add in the holiday discounts, etc, and they earned a pretty fair amount of my business over the past few weeks.

BTW, I sold and traded the Bongo and the MTD and finally wound up with an incredible Stambaugh fretless 6er that I absolutely LOVE! Funny how things work out huh?

Ended up with a rack case (15% off) this way. Not sexy, but I need something to house the power amp on my wish list. (Now I just need to save for the power amp on my wish list.)

Maybe after I get a job on 10/31. TX Child Labor laws say I can't get a job until 14, and my birthdays on Halloween, and I'll hit 14 next year. So I guess I'll have to get back to you guys on that one.

I got next day air on the MTD for 20 bucks. Also, they are willing to deal, they had the bongo listed for 999, I offered 799 and they took it immediately. End of the year, they want to move merchandise.

Exactly what I did on an Epi Pro V Thunderbird.
Otherwise, it would've waited until I had the rest of the $ saved up.

Locals around here are only doing discount if their cash flow pinch is severe.
Most have VERY lucrative and established Junior and High School band "accounts" or connections that keep their doors open and then some.

Gee, I sure hope people realize that most places will deal on instruments. Always try to bargin down the price of a product. It may not always work, but it sure is worth a try.

Most everything that's up for sale is negotiatable.
