back in the 70's i was playing bass for a gospel group. and one of the lead singers son wanted me to teach him to play bass. i did not get the chance to teach him .however he got some bass lessons and became a real good bass player. also in the 70's this girl i was talking to but we never was able to hook up becase i had a girlfriend at the time. anyway i recently saw her 2 years ago and was very surprised to see that she had a bass in her home and she told me that back in the day she would hear me playing my bass (she lived next door) and she is learning to play bass. also my former hairdresser heard me play at a church and he told me he quickly went and bought a bass .it was funny though because a year later he brought his bass at the church for me to play but it was a 5 string and i was used to a 4 .so later i bought a 6 string and also at this other church that i play a lady told me that her son started taking bass lesssons after hearing me play

My latest victim....

http://www.barefootmanner.com/manner...pic.php?t=1048

So this kids mom comes up and says that I am his favorite player....in a band I just joined in Jan that has been around like 6 years so I thought that was cool.

Anyways, went to craigslist, found a bass they could afford (60 bucks for a cort short scale p bass, after a setup it played great!) and found not one but TWO practice amps for 20 bucks, which I kept one and just gave the other to the kid.

He don't say much, but I think he was/is pretty stoked.

My two sons

My younger son Max grew up around music and the various musician friends I played with over the years. After starting on the flute in fourth grade he switched to bass when he was ten.

He just earned a degree in Music with a specialization in Jazz Performance, and has far surpassed his father as a musician (well, at least in the jazz idiom :-)). He is equally proficient on electric and upright.

The older son Sean was inspired by both Max and me to take up bass at the age of 30, and is coming along nicely.

Do you get the sense I'm a bit proud of them?

Kevin
