| | | | When I was playing in a band and had no responsibility it was like every weekend and weekday show I could. Then it eventually dwindled to once a month, or if any of the out of towners we knew came in I'd go. Now I seriously cannot stand going to a metal show. |

Best dive bar!) that has all metal/punk/hardcore/artsy type music. |

(Excellent Philly bands, The Sobriquets and In Grenada.) I saw The Cult two weeks ago, which was the first serious hard rock show I've caught in a long time...way, way too long.

After doing this for 40 years, I see it more like a company softball game. In other words, "If I ain't in it...I don't really care all that much."
Having said that, I just went to see Christian mcBride and enjoyed it. I saw Stanley (for free) in Central Park in the summer. A few friends bands here and there. It's good to do. But I get bored if a show is over an hour in most cases. |

1) I can't expect others to support live music if I don't
2) It's great research on what works and what doesn't
3) Bar owners and employees dig that we support other bands
4) My girl likes to dance! |

But I always try to go see some of the Symphonic Orchestras in my area.

5) If it's friends, to network.
6) If it's strangers, to make new contacts & network.
7) To see, meet, & be seen by other "music scene" folks & network.
8) It's a lot more fun than staying home!

There was a bit of a blow out with the singer and drummer last night, so maybe I'll be getting more weekends off...... We'll see how it pans out.

But since I hooked up with a new band, looks like I'm gonna have to start getting out once in a while. Networking and supporting other bands to keep our gigs coming.
This past Friday we played a local bar and met up with another band who wants to do some gigs with us, so I'll have to make an appearance at their next show for support.
Networking does pay off. I joined this band in September, we just played our first gig, and we immediately got a call to open for a touring band this coming Friday at one of the better local midsized venues. Now I just have to explain to my girlfriend why I'll be going out all the time during the week. |

8) It's a lot more fun than staying home! | All great points. I try to get out to see friends play whenever I can, but work, school and my own two bands kind of stop me from going to about 3/4 of the gigs I want to......
Plus, there aren't a ton of bands I really dig. At least I know there are about 10 shows I want to see around the end of november till christmas.

With a fulltime job, 2 kids, a wife that works irregular hours, getting older, and playing out myself, it's hard. Also I live in the San Fernando valley (suburbs) so it's quite a time investment (driving in LA traffic) to find any decent music. Although I met some friends to see a (very good) Journey tribute band a month or so ago. Lots of cholita lesbian girlfights breaking out everywhere, quite a scene, but not for me thanks. Quote:

Throw in some exessive stage volume, and an ego that requires extra head room...... 3:00am in the parking lot is not a good time to hash stuff out. I'll be in DC next weekend, and I guess I'll see if they settle stuff by the Wed before Thanksgiving.
