how to ship overseas???

So, Ive never shipped anything ive sold overseas....Can you guys give me some pointers as to what to do, what not to do, some of the pitfalls, worries, dangers, etc?...

I would naturally do a secure payment method like paypal.. but are there any other hazards? Do I need to pack it better and more secure than domestic shipping? (and i usually pack things very well)... What about duties, taxes, etc... anything i need to know?
