... Discuss.

I think this, as a goal and without ego, is pretty much essential to anyone who plays originals, and is also important for anyone playing standards, covers, etc too.

What do you all think?

Absolutely true. No question about it.

When I go on stage, I'm the best bass player ever, anywhere... and that holds until the gig is over, and I'm listening to Jaco on the iPod on the way home. You gotta believe in yourself, you gotta.

But... there is a time an a place to park the ego.

That's something that I sometimes have trouble with.

ESPECIALLY when we follow a really great band, or we're opening for a really great band. Or when we're playing for people who really aren't our target audience, or when there's nobody out there in the audience at all.

Now, when we're in our element, I feel like a super band with the audience eating out of my hand.

I just have to find a way to make that leap to suspend my realist attitude.

While I would agree you should like your current band and your current music, I would NEVER answer that question that way. I would have to slap myself.
