Thumbs up I am so flipping happy! I scored some Ayotte's!

This may be a bass forum, and I may hack away at the bass, but I can also tell you all that by far the nices drums I have every sat on were Ayotte's with the wood hoops on all the toms and the snare. Yesterday I scored a 5pc set in great condition locally for a nice price. WOO HOO!

I own Yamaha Recording Customs, and have tried most of the stuff out there, but truly nothing comes close to the Ayotte's. Not DW, not Pearl, Not Yamaha -- nothing!

Nice score! What finish? Sizes? Age?

Now all you need is an Ayotte Keplinger snare, and you're set.

Color is French Vanilla -- think of ice cream in that color & you got it. Not what I would choose for a new set, but used at the price I got them s'okay. Kinda classy/jazzy look.

The sizes are:

Bass Drum: 22x16
Tom 1: 10 (head size) x8
Tom 2: 12x9
Tom 3: 16x15
Snare drum: 14x6 1/2

Everything with wood hoops!

I don't know much about drum technology; what difference does having wood hoops make?

actually, the sound of a drum is affected by:

Shell size
Shell wood material
Shell thickness (wood plies)
Bearing edge cut of shells
Heads
hoops (stamped metal, cast metal, wood)
Suspension

Ayottes are known for a kind of "woody, organic tone" not
choked off, not too boomy, not ringy, but clear and deep.

btw, my set looks like:

I have the Taye GoKit which was designed by Ayotte. Great kit. Ray does some great designs.
