Kurt at rondo just keeps saying no no no no no |

| | | | Just bought one this weekend, but it's back at Guitar Center they're checking the truss rod. I tried to tweak it and it seemed extra stiff so I stopped and I'll let them look at it in case something is wrong. I'm going with flats. |

The neck was perfect but the action was super high. Saddles seemed like they were at a reasonable height. I had the same problem with my Jazz when I bought it. Then I had an 1/8th inch tapered rosewood shim installed. Shocked me how thick the shim needed to be. Now it plays great. Seems like thats what the P I played needed as well. Build quality may be up for Fender post-2007, but factory set-ups leave something to be desired. |

| | | | Got it back after a setup. Wow! I was liking it before but now it plays like butta and sounds so good. You don't want a Fender P5. And you definitely do not want to put flats on it. By all means you really, really don't want to get a P5, put flats on it and play it through an Xotic EP booster. You don't that.
Ok, I'm still in honeymoon phase but wow! I'm very impressed. I can't believe it because I used to hate P basses and I loathed flats. |

Action is very fine. I ordered mine from GC so that no one else (outside of the Fender dudes) has every played it. (black w/maple board)
One thing you'll have to consider...the B sounds fine, but the attack to get a good tone is much lighter than you would apply to rest of the strings. They ship 'em with D' Addario Chromes. Many folks grouse about the 'B' on the Fenders but like any new instrument, you gotta work with it.
Overall, I love it! I switch back & forth with a MIA 4-Precision 2002.

Know of any clips with bass? |

Tone thickener, high end shimmer but not excessively so. The high end adds a little to the articulation. I picked up the booster last night also so I really haven't had a lot of time to test it. I only used headphones since everyone was sleeping but through headphones there was no loss of lows. If everything holds up when I plug into the amp it could very well be my replacement for the Submarine, but that's a whole different story.
I can try to get some sample recorded, but it probably won't be until next weekend.
