I feel a comeback...

I'm coming up on ten years playing the bass, and I stopped playing about two or three years ago due to carpal tunnel syndrome. I sold most of my gear but kept a Mexican Jazz and a Vox Combo amp, and still have a TON of accessories that weren't worth getting rid of.

Long story short, my business has been hiring a lot of younger people lately, and a few musicians in the progress. We've all tossed around the idea of throwing together a company band for fun and it's actually going to happen. A guy in my department is a really talented drummer, and two guys who sit across the building are accomplished guitarists. Long story short, add myself on bass and we've got a nice four piece.

Anyway, I feel like I did in high school. All the talk of throwing a band together, all of a sudden I'm flipping through the MF catalog like a giddy little kid again. The GAS is back and I forgot what it felt like to get into a groove.

It's funny how much the gear has changed in a couple short years. It's so much more expensive, the amps are lighter, and the GAS station is just as time consuming as ever.

Tell me about your comebacks.

No surgery, just awareness of my condition. It was other parts of my life that caused the CTS flareups, but it made playing painful. I haven't played any long periods of time yet but we'll be sure to see if I can swing it before doing any serious damage.
