Yes I am posing, but I really do play it for my school's symphonic band.
I'm pretty proud of playing it. It is very enrichening and I will never quit it.

"But I can't play bass!"
'You're black! Of course you can play bass!'

Heh... cool pic, though, man.

I hate performing in a tux or suit/tie, I always seem to sweat through my shirt. |

How tall are you? It looks like you have a half size bass maybe. I'm 5'11 and I play a 3/4 size.

Not an upright player ( yet) , but yeah it sure does look like inefficient biomechanics; the first thing I thought of was stepping off to the side a bit on the instrument. Or have a machinst make up an extra long peg for ya. I dont know what heck I;m talkign about btw, not being an upright player.
All my suits get tight in my upper arms bad if I have to bend them for a while. ?? I aint no body builder either. Could do it on an electric, not so on an upright.
alpha looks like a big boy! 6'2" min I reckon.

But then I'm not sure. I'll check how my size compared to the other bass when I go back to school on monday.

By the way, have you tried a bow yet? |

I know you guys are going to be like "Not the french bow!" Haha but thats the only one the school has. And on top of it it's pretty much wrecked. The hairs are about as thick two pencils. yeah everyone messes with it and it's just gotten destroyed. I can get a good sound out of it though.
By the way. If you know anyone Electric Bassists that think they're god. Let them play Double bass with a bow. I guarantee you it will bring them down a notch or 3.

| | no really, smokemeth&hailsatan | | Join Date: Dec 2005 Location: Pueblo, CO | | | I use a French bow. I can’t stand a German bow. It’s great for stuff with long, smooth, sustained lagato, but for anything else, it’s a bear. Most of the stuff I do with the all winds band is either I V marches, or super fast accented blasts that need speed and power. I just couldn’t get that with a German bow. And with the symphonie its almost the same, except it’s not tuba lines so the bass lines are just a bit smoother and more melodic instead of rhythmic. And I don’t half to read them all an octave up!
So what kind of pieces are you guys playing in your band? |

Either sit, or come out from behind the bass a bit, or both...
Like so:
or even this:
(by the way, that's me playing with Ellis Marsallis in New Orleans)
