I have been playing about a year too... I got tired of playing about with CDs... I put an ad on craigslist and joined with a couplea other guys and started a band.... Nothing like playing with other people...

Good grief. You're only 14. You haven't even been playing long enough to get into a rut...

Sounds like you need a music education. Whatever music you've been listening to, start listening to something different. Whatever music you've been playing - or trying to play - start playing something different.

If you've been thinking in terms of limits - i.e. "I can't play this thing any differently than I've been playing. It's only a bass." - then start thinking in terms of possibilities. Experiment. Improvise. Get creative.

Give yourself a swift kick in the butt, and quit whining. There's a whole world of musical possibilities right in front of your nose. Go sic 'em, Tiger...
