I found a Holy Grail (Moog content)

Today I decided to go down to MusicGoRound to trade in some of my pedals that I just didn't find myself using.

As I was waiting up at the front for the manager, I spied across the floor a set of Moog Taurus pedals, the original Taurus I. I thought "no way..." After the manager took my gear to appraise it, I immediately made a beeline to the Taurus. It was a little beat up, with some electrical tape holding part of the top console in place, but I asked the manager "I gotta ask you, do those Taurus pedals work?" He said they did and they hooked them up for me. I started to play around with them, but they sounded really out of whack, like one of the oscillators was messed up. I debated with myself whether I should buy them. I've been wanting a set of these for like 20 years, and I couldn't believe I was actually in the presence of a set. I even called up my wife to explain my dilemma. She said I should go ahead and buy them if that's what I really wanted (even though at that point I was thinking they were gonna be a fixer-upper project.)

It didn't take me long to decide. I sat in my truck for about 3 minutes running it over in my head, and I finally decided that I might not ever see a set of these ever again, and I had to jump on them, even if they seemed like they needed some repair. So I went back in, and told the manager "Okay, I gotta have 'em!"

So I took them home, all the while thinking that I needed to look into some synth repair guys in town to take a look at them. So I got home, hooked them up, turned on the power and... they worked perfectly. I guess they were just a little cold sitting on that sales floor! I'm so exhilarated that I'm still shaking.

My cost: $100 + some traded in pedals. Luck definitely shined on me today! Holy crap.

check the connections. I know that due to some rusty pots and sliders my old moog synth can have the oscillators go haywire.

Congratulations! Taurus pedals rule!

Check out any old Genesis record for some nice Taurus examples. And if you see the Genesis DVD Live at Wembley Stadium (from 1987) you'll see they've got three or four Taurus sets on stage.

Yup, that's about the going rate on them now. The sticker price on mine was $399, but he brought it down to $300 (and then $100 plus the stuff I traded in.) I guess I was just meant to have them! I had thought about selling my old gear on here or on ebay, but a co-worker of mine, who used to work in music store retail management, knew the guys at this particlar MusicGoRound location so I thought I'd check them out.

The guy who originally brought these pedals in also brought in some other vintage stuff at the same time: a Moog Source synth in near-mint condition (already gone, or I might have grabbed that one too!), a Sunn Coliseum, and a Gibson Victory bass that weighed like 20 pounds.
