I Got Burned by MF!.. so far..

I'm pretty bummed. Last week I ordered my first expensive bass (I know that is relative) One thousand dollars is a lot of money to me. I have been gassing for a MIA P bass for some time and ordered my Butterscotch blonde W/ Maple fretboard. It arrived this morning it what appeared to be a new box. Don't be fooled, that was the box Musicians Friend placed over the Fender box. My first clue was I noticed the Fender box had been re-taped. Oh well, I thought that could be innocent. Then I opened the case, what struck me right away was that the protective film on the pickguard was missing. Still I was OK, then I noticed the S1 button was missing. Now I knew I was having a bad day! I picked up the bass and noticed scratchs all over the black pickguard.

It was used AND broken. Well, I got an account manager at MF who emailed me a UPS return label and has promised to ship out a new bass as soon as he sees tracking movement on my return. He even agreed to overnight shipping. I hope it happens. But here is my question.. Has this ever happened to you? I still find it hard to believe that I can spend that kind of money and have this happen. Let me add that I would have loved to buy this locally but no one I could find could get their hands on a blonde/ maple P

I will keep you all informed as to what happens

Don't worry about it MF is very good about returns. It is only costing you some time and not money. It could be far worse.

I had just the oppostie experience with MF. I ordered a "scratch and dent" Antique White MIM Active J for about $200 off their normal price. When it arrived, it was obvious that it had never been taken from the box and was in perfect shape.

I just think you had a bad break. I know it's frustrating, but it looks like you're only going to be out a couple of days time.

Don't discount MF because of one bad experience. I've ordered numerous times from them and have always been satisfied. As Atoz said, I've had just the opposite with their Blem stuff. The first thing I ordered was a Hartke blem cab and you could barely notice a small dent in the grille. They aim to please.

Tanslacks,

First: wow a P in butterscotch blonde with maple board- sounds beautiful!

I'm sure they'll work it out for you. I've done returns, special orders, and drop ships with MF (Guitar Center) and haven't had trouble. Considering the large volume of product that they move around, I am not surprised situations such as your occasionally occur.

Thanks

Thanks everyone for the supportive words. The used bass is on it's way back to MF. They really could not give any reason for the mix up. I just hope the next one that comes is new and fine. I should say, that was the first time I laid eyes on the butterscotch/Maple in person. Even used, it was beautiful. Later in the day I talked to someone named Chelsea at MF. She was fantastic. Her attitude was sincere and helpful, not quite what I recieved earlier in the day. That alone made me feel much better.

The are greater problems in the world, that is for SURE. I just hoped that holding my new bass would make mine go away. I just have to wait a few more days...

I once ordered a lefty USA Strat from them and they sent me a righty MIM Tele. They were totally helpful and cooperative, though. I wouldn't worry.
