So after searching and searching and weeding out for at least nine months (yeah, the music scene is that lame), I joined an all original band tonight.
It has been really difficult to find people who want to do originals.
The band consists of two acoustic guitars, female vocals, percussionist and me on electric bass.
The music is definitely not your typical acoustic four chord stuff. It is very creative and definitely sounds good live. Everyone in the band has a different background in music and it all meshes well together. We actually do a few covers, but the bulk of the music is original.
I did my homework and got down six of their original tunes (adding in my own style of course). They were impressed with my playing and wanted me to come aboard. We did two auditions to make sure we were on the same page. I think I auditioned them more than they auditioned me.
This is quite a departure for me, I have never played music that was this mellow, but I welcome the chance to do something that you can take just about anywhere. We'll definitely be hitting up the coffee shops and wine bars.
Anyway I thought I would share the good news with my talkbass peeps.
I am very inspired at the moment, I almost want to plug in my bass, if I could just find my headphones.
