Like the title says, my parents who were on a vacation in New York for the past month bought me a sweet Yamaha BB414, on a hasty decision that I made . I mean I love the bass for being a BB414 and all, since that is the bass I wanted but now that it's here I feel like I was too greedy and it was rather a bad decision since I'm getting guilt pangs about my other perfectly healthy...actually not so healthy bass ( Check this...) .
I've barely played it for a couple of days but after a talk with my parents about this, I decided to clean up the BB414 good, wrap it with the covers it came in, and shove it under the bed for a year and a half or two . I know it's probably a ****** decision, but I couldnt get any peace of mind without doing that . I'd like to see my current bass REALLY wear out in terms of paint and stuff, before I feel like retiring it .
Will the BB414 be ok in it's flight case with the wrapping if take it out for maintainence once a while and stuff ?? and more importantly , how whacked out is this plan anyways . Get a new bass and stuff it .

What you're explaining is the equivalent of wrapping up a brand new Ford Mustang and not driving it for a couple years because you feel guilty because you did something stupid and wrecked your Geo Metro. SO because you feel guilty your going to keep driving the Metro and ignore the much nicer Mustang.
It sounds (to me) like you didn't really appreciate the old bass you had and farked it up (which we all have done as kids), but now that you have a nicer bass you also don't appreciate that gift and rather then use it your going to horde it under a bed.
I'd do it the opposite of what you're thinking. I'd play the BB414 and keep the other as a reminder of a stupid move. Hang it on a wall and take it down when your next motivated to do some stupid move.
:-)
Keep the old one as a stupid beat around bass, and play/use the BB414 for what it is. A good quality great sounding (I feel classic) bass.
My thoughts.

But everytime I upgrade something it opens up new levels of music and creative ideas. Don't hold yourself back! Dive in to that new bass.

You're stinkin'" Take a deep breath and play that thing , but fergawdsakes get better straplocks! |

| | | | Take both basses to gigs. Play the BB414 (nice bass - been looking at them... Pretty tempted. Just need a good excuse!) all night until you get "excited". THEN switch to your old beater bass, and go nuts with it.
You've learnt your lesson. Don't screw up again.
Alternativly if you REALLY want to keep the BB safe, you should send it to me and I'll keep it out of harms way for a few years. |

Take out your new bass, play it and appreciate it. Lots of TBr's have more than one bass. NBD (no big deal). |

I have almost 18,000 posts, and I'm telling you to get that danged bass out from under that bed and play it like there's no tomorrow. You deserve a new bass, and you got one. It's an insult to your parents not to play it. Think about how they feel. You're being weird.

Quit overthinking the issue and play the bass. What the heck, play both basses. Most TBers have more than one bass, and if they can share the love, you can to.

If your parents bought you the bass why do you feel guilty? Now if you were married like me and went and bought a bass behind your wife's back, { like so many married guys here did at least once including myself } then you should feel guilty. Go play that bass young buck!
